Therapist, Supervisee in Social Work

Cynthia Coleman

I firmly believe, no matter the battle, victory is within reach. We can overcome together!

Cynthia Coleman, therapist for women and adults in Norfolk, Hampton, and across Virginia.

Hey, I’m Cynthia.

I am a Supervisee in Social Work with nearly 20 years of experience helping children, teens, and adults navigate trauma, grief, relationship wounds, and life transitions. My passion is walking alongside people as they rediscover balance, resilience, and emotional clarity — helping them build relationships and lives that feel authentic, supported, and whole.

My approach to therapy is strengths-based, person-centered, and trauma-informed, guided by a systems perspective that recognizes how our environment, relationships, and community shape who we are and how we heal.

Who I Help

I work with:

  • Women who do it all — those who carry the emotional and practical weight of family, work, and relationships yet struggle to care for themselves.

  • College students and young adults navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, and academic stress who feel overwhelmed or unsure of their direction.

  • Adults healing from family-of-origin issues or codependency, learning to set healthy boundaries and rebuild self-worth.

  • Children and teens working through trauma, grief, or behavioral challenges within their families.

If you find yourself overextending for others or feeling lost in the process of caring for everyone else, therapy can be a place to slow down, reflect, and begin healing in a way that feels compassionate and empowering.

Background & Approach

I hold a Master’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Indiana University and a Master’s in Social Work from Edinboro University. Over the years, I’ve worked in a variety of settings — inpatient and outpatient care, foster care, day treatment, and community-based programs — supporting individuals and families across all stages of life.

My work is grounded in trauma recovery and relational healing. I integrate evidence-based and creative modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), recreational therapy, and expressive therapies.

I see therapy as a collaborative journey — one where we work together to explore your strengths, expectations, and patterns while identifying new ways to approach old struggles. My goal is to empower you to understand your story, discover growth opportunities, and move toward meaningful, lasting change.

I often remind my clients: no matter the battle, victory is within reach.

I offer in-person counseling in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and telehealth therapy for clients across the state. My work focuses on helping individuals heal from trauma, overcome codependency, and strengthen their relationships with themselves and others.
