Questions About Getting Started

We know starting therapy can feel like a big step. Here are answers to the questions we hear most often.

  • We do the matching for you. Our founders — both seasoned licensed therapists — are personally involved in every client match at our Fredericksburg, Virginia practice. When you reach out, we learn about your goals, life stage, what you're navigating, and your preferences for therapy style and availability. Then we connect you with the therapist whose training, experience, and approach is the best fit for exactly where you are right now. You don't have to figure out who to choose on your own — that's our job. And if at any point you have concerns about your fit or experience, we remain available to navigate that with you. Reaching out is just a conversation, not a commitment.

  • We believe cost shouldn't be a barrier to getting the right support. Our therapists are in-network with most major insurance plans — including Anthem, BlueCross BlueShield, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Medicare, and most Medicaid plans — which means your insurance helps cover the cost of sessions. We are not currently in-network with Tricare, Cigna, or Aetna Medicaid. If you have Tricare or Cigna, we can provide a receipt you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement — contact your plan to ask about out-of-network coverage. If you don't have insurance or need a more affordable option, we have therapists available through Open Path at a lower rate. Not sure what your plan covers? Reach out and we'll help you figure it out.

  • Yes — and you might be surprised how well it works. We offer secure online therapy to clients anywhere in Virginia through SimplePractice, a HIPAA-compliant video platform. Online sessions provide the same quality of care as in-person therapy, and our founders are still personally involved in matching you with the right therapist — whether you're in Fredericksburg or anywhere else in Virginia. Telehealth works especially well for college students, busy professionals, military-connected clients, and anyone in a rural area where specialized therapy isn't easily available nearby. Many of our clients even fit sessions into their lunch break — therapy doesn't have to interrupt your evenings or family time. Note: play therapy for children under 10 is offered in person at our Fredericksburg office, as hands-on approaches work best face to face. Not sure if online therapy is right for you? Reach out and we'll help you decide.

  • We work with children ages 4 and up, tweens, teens, young adults, college students, and adults of all ages — including men and women navigating major life transitions. At the heart of our practice is a shared foundation of attachment-based, trauma-informed care. Within that foundation, each of our therapists has chosen a specific niche — children, teens, men's issues, chronic illness, neurodiversity, and more — and pursued focused training in that area. This means you're not just getting a generalist. You're getting someone who has chosen to specialize in people like you. Not every therapist works with every age or population, which is exactly why our matching process matters — we make sure the person you're working with is genuinely the right fit for your life stage and what you're carrying.

  • Sí, ofrecemos terapia en español. Our therapist Angélica Guevara-López offers fully bilingual therapy in Spanish and English — meaning sessions can flow naturally in whichever language feels most comfortable, or both. Angélica brings not just language but genuine cultural understanding into the therapy room — including the unique pressures of acculturation, family roles, and balancing multiple cultural identities. She works with children ages 6 and up, teens, and young adults, in person in Fredericksburg, VA and via telehealth across Virginia. Whether your family is more comfortable in Spanish, English, or moving between both — you are welcome here. Para más información sobre terapia en español, visita nuestra página dedicada.

  • Our therapy is rooted in two things every therapist on our team shares: attachment-based care and trauma-informed practice. Within that foundation, each therapist thoughtfully integrates approaches based on what you as an individual actually need — not a rigid formula. This might include approaches that help you process difficult experiences, calm your nervous system, understand patterns in your relationships, reconnect with your sense of self, or work through grief, identity, and life transitions. For those who are curious, our therapists are trained in evidence-based approaches including EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems, CBT, mindfulness, and more. We also offer bariatric psychological evaluations — learn more on our dedicated services page. Whatever approach we use, the goal is always the same: therapy that actually fits you.
