Supervisee in Social Work
Angélica Guevara-López
Bilingual therapy for children, teens and young adults — in person in Fredericksburg and online across Virginia
Meet Angélica.
Hi, I’m Angélica Guevara-López, MSW, a bilingual (Spanish/English) therapist who works with children ages 4 and up, teens, and young adults navigating anxiety, depression, emotional overwhelm, identity concerns, and life transitions. I am currently receiving specialized training and supervision in play therapy, bringing developmentally appropriate, play-based approaches to my work with younger children.I am passionate about supporting people who feel stretched thin by stress, responsibility, or internal pressure—especially those who may feel misunderstood, disconnected from themselves, or unsure how to move forward. Therapy with me is a space where you can slow down, feel heard, and begin making sense of what you’re carrying in a way that feels respectful, collaborative, and empowering.
I offer therapy in Spanish or English, depending on your preference, and I bring a culturally responsive lens to my work while welcoming clients from all backgrounds.
Who I Help
I work with:
Children ages 4 and up navigating anxiety, big emotions, school stress, and identity development — in Spanish or English
Teens navigating identity development, self-esteem concerns, emotional regulation, or family stress
Young adults managing anxiety, depression, life transitions, and the pressure of balancing multiple expectations
Spanish-speaking children and families who value receiving therapy in their home language
Clients experiencing acculturation stress or the pressure of balancing multiple cultural identities
Many of the children, teens, and young adults I work with feel out of step with the world around them — struggling with big emotions, school stress, identity questions, or the pressure of carrying more than they should at their age. For younger children, therapy becomes a place to express what they can't yet put into words. For teens and young adults, it becomes a space to understand themselves more deeply, build confidence, and find their footing. Whether sessions are in Spanish or English — or both — my goal is always the same: to make sure every client feels genuinely seen and supported.
Background & Approach
I hold a Master's degree in Social Work and practice from a trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally responsive perspective. My approach is relational, warm, and developmentally attuned — meaning I work differently with a 5-year-old than I do with a 20-year-old, meeting each client exactly where they are.
I integrate evidence-based approaches including:
Play therapy and play-based interventions — for younger children who express themselves through play rather than words
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) — an evidence-based approach specifically designed to help children and teens process trauma, build coping skills, and restore a sense of safety
Mindfulness-based strategies
Trauma-informed care
Emotional regulation and coping skills development
I have completed several specialized play therapy trainings and am actively working toward my Registered Play Therapist (RPT) credential — the highest standard of certification in the field. I receive ongoing supervision from a Registered Play Therapist, ensuring my play-based work meets the highest clinical standards. This commitment reflects my deep investment in providing children with the most effective, developmentally appropriate care possible.
I am especially attentive to how culture, family roles, community expectations, and identity influence emotional well-being — particularly for clients navigating life between two cultures or languages. Healing happens best when people feel genuinely seen, respected, and understood — in whatever language feels most like home.
